Marine Plywood | 9mm - Product Video

Specifications

Marine Plywood, as the name suggests, is a highly durable structured board heavily used in the marine and boat industries due to its high moisture resistant core. This core makes this particular Plywood extremely resistant to expansion and rotting, further backed up by the fact that these boards are BS 1088 certified. These boards are manufactured from bonded veneers and the edges are glued with Phenolic Resin, ensuring ultimate durability and moisture resistance. Aside from its use in the marine industry, Marine Plywood is also ideal for use in external joinery, shelving and temporary structures.

Our Marine Plywood is available in thicknesses of 4mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 25mm and comes in a number of sizes:

Frequently Asked Questions

What projects suit 9 mm marine plywood?

Good for mid‑strength uses: boat flooring, subfloors, cabinet backs in damp areas, parts of jetties or decking substructures.

Why use marine quality plywood rather than standard ply for 9 mm thickness?

Higher resistance to moisture, reduced risk of warping/delamination, stronger bonding, fewer defects in veneers.

Is 9 mm marine ply waterproof or just water‑resistant?

It’s water‑resistant, with waterproof glue; not fully impervious. Edges must be sealed; long‑term water exposure may still cause issues if untreated.

How well does 9 mm hold fasteners and screws?

Strong holding power; better than thinner sheets. Pilot drilling helps, particularly near edges.

Can it be used for exterior furniture or fixtures?

Yes, when sealed and finished, it's good for external benches, garden furniture, fixtures, as long as structure is well‑supported.

What’s the finish like and can it be painted or varnished?

Faces are usually smooth, high quality; accepts varnish, paint or stain after proper preparation.

Storage & transportation advice for 9 mm sheets?

Store flat, dry, off ground; protect edges. Larger sheets may need careful handling.

How to protect it from fungal attack or rot?

Use proper finishes, keep dry, good ventilation, seal exposed areas; marine plywood typically resists fungal attack due to quality of wood and glue.

Lifespan expectations for 9 mm marine plywood?

Can last many years (10‑20+), depending on exposure, finish, maintenance.

Bulk/trade purchase & custom cuts?

Yes — trade discounts usually available. Custom sizing/cutting services often offered.
