Frequently Asked Questions
What length are these 8ft scaffold boards?
These graded scaffold boards are approximately 8 feet, or 2.4 metres, long. They are suitable for shorter scaffold spans, access platforms and many general construction and landscaping uses.
What can graded 8ft scaffold boards be used for?
They are commonly used to form work platforms on scaffolding, but are also popular for garden structures, raised beds, planters, rustic benches and small decking areas where a solid plank is required.
Are these 8ft boards suitable for use on a scaffold system?
Yes. They are graded scaffold boards intended for use on correctly designed and erected scaffold systems. Ensure they are supported at the correct centres, properly lapped if required and regularly inspected in line with current safety guidance.
Are the scaffold boards pressure treated for outdoor use?
Treatment can vary by supplier. Check the product information for details of any pressure treatment. If boards are to be left exposed outdoors or used in contact with the ground, additional protection or treatment may be beneficial to maximise service life.
Can I use these boards indoors for furniture projects?
Yes. Many people use scaffold boards to create tables, shelving, benches and other furniture. For indoor projects, boards are often planed, sanded and sealed to give a smoother, easier to clean surface while retaining the character of the timber.
What size are the boards in terms of width and thickness?
Standard scaffold boards are produced to a typical width and thickness suitable for scaffold work. Please refer to the technical specification on the product page for the precise dimensions of these 8ft boards.
How should I look after scaffold boards used as decking or furniture?
For decorative or decking use, sand any sharp edges and apply a suitable wood preservative, stain or oil. Recoat periodically according to manufacturers instructions and keep the boards clean and free draining to prolong their life.
Do scaffold boards need to be supported along their full length?
When used on scaffolding, boards must be supported at the correct spacing and properly secured to meet load and safety requirements. For other uses such as benches or shelves, provide adequate support to prevent excessive deflection or twisting.
Can I cut or trim the 8ft boards to custom sizes?
Yes, boards can be cut with suitable saws to suit bespoke projects. However, once cut they may no longer meet the standard requirements for use as scaffold planks, so only use modified boards on scaffolds if they have been checked and approved by a competent person.
Are these boards banded on the ends?
Some scaffold boards are supplied with metal end bands to help protect against splitting, while others may be unbanded. Check the individual product description or images to confirm whether these 8ft boards are banded.
