Frequently Asked Questions
What are the exact dimensions?
Nominally 150 mm wide × 30 mm thick; after finishing approx. 148 × 28 mm. Length is 12ft / 3.6m.
What type of timber is used?
High‑quality softwood, pressure treated for enhanced durability.
Are these boards pressure‑treated?
Yes — treated to resist decay, rot & insect attack.
Are they knot‑free?
Yes — these boards are noted as being free of knots for a smoother, more consistent appearance.
How long will they last?
With proper installation and maintenance (oiling / keeping dry / good airflow), you can expect many years of service—commonly 10‑15+ years depending on exposure & upkeep.
What maintenance is required?
Regular cleaning, sealing or oiling (annually or as needed), treating cut ends, and making sure water doesn’t pool on the boards.
Can these boards be cut or trimmed?
Yes — standard woodworking tools can be used. Treat any cut edges to protect them.
What fasteners are best?
Use corrosion‑resistant screws or nails (galvanised or stainless steel) suitable for outdoor use. Proper joist spacing is also important.
Do they warp or split with changes in weather?
Pressure treatment helps reduce this, but wood naturally moves. Ensuring good ventilation, avoiding contact with standing water, and using proper fixings helps.
What aesthetic / finish do these boards give?
A classic softwood timber appearance, with a smooth, knot‑free surface giving a cleaner, more finished look than heavily knotted boards.
