Frequently Asked Questions
What is 9mm birch plywood best suited for?
The 9 mm thickness offers a good mix of strength and flexibility — great for furniture panels, cabinet backs, shelving, and decorative cladding where both durability and a clean visible surface are needed.
What grades are available, and what’s the difference?
We stock 9 mm birch plywood in BB/BB (both sides smooth, fewer defects) and BB/CP (one smooth side, the other with more natural marks). Pick the grade depending on which face will show in your project.
How smooth are the surfaces? Can it take fine finishes?
Very smooth. The sheets are carefully sanded on both faces, especially in BB/BB grade, making them well suited to paint, varnish or stain finishes. A light sanding before finishing helps for the best result.
How is the board constructed to give strength and stability?
It’s made from layers of birch veneers cross-bonded together, using strong adhesives (such as WBP glue), which provides strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to bending or warping.
Is this plywood moisture-resistant or suitable for humid environments?
Yes — the glue used is water-resistant (WBP), reducing risk of delamination. However, being wood, exposed edges may still absorb moisture if not sealed. For areas with frequent dampness, sealing edges and finishes will help.
Can I cut, drill, or machine this plywood easily?
Yes — 9 mm is workable with standard woodworking tools. Because of the dense birch veneer, sharp blades are preferred. After making cuts or drilling, sealing exposed core or edges helps preserve lifespan.
What are the available sheet sizes and custom cutting options?
Standard sizes include 8×4 ft (≈ 2438×1219 mm), 4×4 ft, 4×2 ft, 2×2 ft, and 2×1 ft. We also offer a custom cutting service for pieces that need non-standard dimensions.
How should I store and care for 9mm birch plywood to avoid damage?
Store the sheets flat, raised off the ground, in a dry environment. Avoid exposure to standing water or drastic humidity changes. Handle with care to prevent dents. If panels are cut, seal the edges to prevent swelling.
Will this plywood warp or twist over time?
When properly supported, kept dry, and stored flat, birch plywood is quite stable. Because of cross-bonded veneers and good grade, the risk of warping is reduced. Poor storage or moisture exposure is the main cause of warping.
Do you offer trade pricing or bulk purchase options?
