Composite Decking Composition
These innovative composite decking boards are made from 55% recycled wood, 40% HDPE, and ~5% additives, so they're not only good for the environment but also incredibly durable.
The composition of the boards can vary slightly for each colour, depending on the additives used to create the colour. So if you're looking for a unique, eye-catching deck that will last for years to come, SmartDeck® decking is a perfect choice!
Application
All of our composite deck boards come in 4m or 2m lengths, but can easily be cut down to custom sizes with standard carpentry tools. And, unlike classic wood decking, you don't have to worry about composite boards warping or cracking over time.
They're also incredibly easy to install - even if you're not a professional tradesman. Simply secure the boards using hidden fixings for a clean and professional installation that will last the test of time.
Do not attach composite decking boards directly to the subframe with screws, always use the clips or fitting systems provided to secure the deck to the joists.
The clips allow the deck to expand or contract by about 5mm. 5mm Gap, allow a 5mm gap at the end of each board to expand and contract during hotter weather conditions.
Gradient allows for a 1 in 100 (1%) gradient to allow water to drain off the deck.
Please Note:
As with all brands of composite decking, SmartDeck's range will lighten and lose up to 30% of its colour in the first 6 months before stabilising to its final colour.
Composite products are made in different batches. Batches can differ in size, shade, texture and colour. We highly recommend ordering all of your deckings together to avoid subtle differences in appearance.
Composite Decking Boards have a width tolerance of up to 2%.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Slate Black composite fascia board used for?
A Slate Black composite fascia board is used to clad and conceal the outer edges and framing of a composite deck. It creates a smart border, hides structural timbers and gives the deck a clean, contemporary finish.
Is this fascia board colour-matched to Slate Black composite decking?
Yes. It is designed to complement Slate Black composite deck boards so that the fascia, step risers and deck surface all share the same tone for a coordinated appearance.
What is the length and typical profile of the Slate Black fascia board?
The fascia is supplied in 4m lengths. The width and thickness are specified in the product details and are proportioned to suit common deck frame depths and the matching deck board profile.
How do I fix Slate Black fascia boards to my deck structure?
Fascia boards are generally fixed directly to the face of the perimeter joists using suitable stainless steel or colour-matched composite screws. Pre-drilling and countersinking can improve the finish and help reduce any risk of splitting.
Can I use this fascia board to clad step risers on my deck?
Yes. Composite fascia is ideal for covering step risers and the sides of raised decks, giving a uniform look and protecting the underlying framework. Ensure steps are built to Building Regulations and that fixings do not create trip hazards.
Does the Slate Black fascia board need painting or staining?
No. The colour is integral to the composite material, so there is no need for painting or staining. Occasional cleaning with mild soapy water is usually all that is required.
Can the fascia board be cut and mitred for corners?
Yes. It can be cut and mitred with standard woodworking tools such as a circular saw or mitre saw fitted with a fine-tooth blade. Always support the board while cutting and wear eye and dust protection.
Will the Slate Black colour fade over time?
Like other composite products, some initial colour weathering can occur when first exposed to sunlight, but the fascia is formulated with UV stabilisers to help minimise long-term fading and retain its Slate Black appearance.
Is the fascia board suitable for all-weather outdoor use?
Yes. Composite fascia boards are designed to resist moisture, rot and insect attack when installed correctly, making them suitable for year-round exterior use.
How should I clean and maintain Slate Black composite fascia boards?
Brush away loose debris periodically and wash with warm water and a mild detergent, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid harsh solvents or very abrasive cleaning pads that could mark the surface.
