Frequently Asked Questions

What is a concealed post base 133 mm?

It’s a post base that hides its fixings and has a 133 mm height to embed timber posts above the base for aesthetic and structural reasons.

What type of structure is it used for?

For decks, pergolas, balconies, carports — where you want a discreet fix between timber post and concrete.

How is the post base fixed to concrete?

Use anchor bolts or wedge anchors into the concrete, align the base, and fix the timber post with screws or bolts.

Is corrosion protection included?

High quality bases are hot‑dip galvanised or made of stainless steel for durability in outdoor environments.

What post sizes does it support?

It typically supports standard timber post sizes (e.g. 100×100 mm, 125×125 mm, etc.), but check manufacturer’s spec.

Does it raise the post off ground?

Yes — it lifts the timber post a bit above the base level, helping eliminate direct ground contact and reduce rot risk.

Can it tolerate lateral loads?

Some concealed post bases are engineered to resist lateral forces (wind, sway) — check the allowable load values.

How close can it be to slab edges?

Follow manufacturer’s minimum edge distance to avoid cracking or spalling of concrete under load.

What spacing for fixings is required?

Use required anchor bolt spacing per engineering guidance and product spec sheet.

How to maintain and inspect post base?

Regularly inspect for corrosion, loosened bolts, or water pooling. Tighten as necessary and ensure drainage.
