Description

Planed Air-Dried Constructional Grade (EX QP1) European Oak Beams – 100% PEFC Certified

Special ORDER ITEM - Delivery 18-20 working days.

Our Planed Air-Dried European Oak Beams (EX QP1 Constructional Grade) are premium quality structural timbers ideal for both traditional and modern construction projects. Carefully sourced from sustainably managed European forests and certified 100% PEFC, these beams combine strength, durability, and the natural beauty of genuine oak.

Air-dried for an extended period, the timber achieves a more stable moisture content and develops the classic oak character, making it perfect for exposed structural applications and high-end joinery. European oak is widely used for structural framing due to its strength, density and long-term durability.

All beams are planed for a smooth finish and machined to consistent dimensions, making them suitable for visible construction elements and precise installations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dimensions of the 1.2 m railway sleeper?

The sleeper is approx. 1.2 m in length, with dimensions around 250×125 mm. Compact enough for smaller landscaping features yet still substantial.

Is the timber treated, and what type of wood is used?

Typically treated timber, often softwood or hardwood depending on supplier, with wood preservatives to protect against moisture, rot and insect damage.

What are ideal uses for this shorter sleeper length?

Great for garden edging, small retaining walls, borders, steps, raised beds or decorative features where full‑length sleepers are too large.

Will this size sleeper resist weathering and decay?

Yes — particularly if treated, sealed, and installed with good drainage. The smaller size reduces warping risk compared to longer sleepers.

Can they be used to build steps or risers?

Absolutely — their size makes them easier to handle and suitable for risers in steps or bench seats. Secure anchoring and support still needed.

How do I cut or finish them cleanly?

Use sharp saws or power tools, support the sleeper during cutting. Treat cut ends with sealant, sand edges for smoother finish.

Handling and lifting considerations?

Easier to move than 2.4 m sleepers due to shorter length, but still heavy — need two people or tools for safe transport and placement.

Is soil contact safe for these sleepers?

Yes if they are treated, especially for softwood. For hardwood, natural durability helps. Avoid untreated or creosoted sleepers, especially with soil contact in food gardens.

What are the maintenance practices to prolong life?

Reapply preservative or wood‑sealant to exposed areas, keep soil off ends, ensure water drains away, avoid standing water against visible faces, inspect for signs of decay annually.

Trade or volume pricing plus delivery details?

Yes — bulk orders usually qualify. Due to their size, delivery might need special handling, access, and possibly lifting gear or assistance onsite.
