Description

Timber Gravel Boards 6x1 | 150mm x 22mm x 3.6m (12ft) - Product Video

Tanalised treated gravel boards, our boards have undergone an extensive treatment process to ensure deep penetration into the timber cells, this ensures longer-lasting protection against fungal decay and insect attack.

Pressure-treated timber is leach resistant, ensuring a long and trouble-free service life in a wide range of conditions, and assured performance in sensitive environments.

Gravel Board serves the specific purpose of being attached to the bottom of a garden fence to raise it to a desired height, when the ideal height cannot be achieved with standard fence panels. Gravel Boards can also be used to correct uneven ground surface. Another purpose for these versatile boards is to provide a layer of protection between your fence posts and panels and the ground, this prevents the bottom of the posts and panels from rot, decay and ground burrowing pests. This will make your fence much more durable and resilient to environmental stressors. This includes providing a solid base so that the fence stays in tact during turbulent weather conditions. Gravel Boards are the first step in the installation of a long-life and high-quality fence.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose a 3.6m timber gravel board instead of a 2.4m board?

A 3.6m gravel board is useful where fence posts are spaced further apart, on longer bays or where you prefer fewer joints along the base of the fence. It can help create a smoother visual line with fewer vertical breaks.

What are the dimensions of this 3.6m gravel board?

The board is approximately 150mm high by 22mm thick and 3.6m long. This is often used with fencing systems that have wider bay spacings, such as ranch style or some closeboard runs.

Is the 3.6m gravel board treated for outdoor use?

Yes, gravel boards are typically pressure treated to improve resistance to fungal decay and insects. Confirm the treatment specification in the product details, especially if the board will be in frequent contact with soil or damp ground.

Can I cut a 3.6m gravel board into shorter sections?

You can cut the board into shorter lengths with suitable saws to suit staggered or stepped fence lines. Treat all cut ends with an appropriate preservative to maintain the protection provided by the original treatment.

How is a longer gravel board supported along its length?

Support the board at each fence post and at any intermediate points recommended for your fencing design to prevent bowing. Fix it securely with exterior-grade screws or nails or slot into compatible concrete posts with gravel board recesses.

Can this 3.6m board be used as a retaining board?

It can retain shallow gravel or light soil, but for larger retained heights or heavy loads you should use more substantial timbers or specialist retaining systems designed for that purpose.

Does a gravel board improve the life of fence panels?

Yes. By separating fence panels from direct soil contact and splashing water, the gravel board acts as a sacrificial component. When it eventually needs replacing, the main fence panels above are often still in good condition.

Can I stain the 3.6m gravel board to match the fence colour?

You can stain or paint the gravel board with compatible exterior wood finishes once the pressure treatment has dried. This helps blend it with the rest of the fence and can provide additional weather protection.

Is this board suitable for both domestic and light commercial fencing?

Yes. It is commonly used on domestic gardens and light commercial boundaries where timber fencing is installed. For high security or heavy-duty boundaries, a more robust specification may be required.

How should I store gravel boards before installation?

Store them flat on level bearers, off the ground and under cover where possible. Allow air to circulate around the boards and avoid prolonged contact with standing water prior to installation.
