Structural Grade Treated 8x3 Timber | 200mm x 75mm
Our large stock of 8x3 Timber is the perfect structural material for a variety of building applications, such as roof and floor joists, partitions and timber framing. Along with this, our Treated Timber is EN14081-2 Certified, making it perfectly suitable for both indoor and outdoor projects.
As well as our timber receiving the highest quality treatment, we sourced the highest quality Scandinavian Whitewood Spruce, a slow growing tree that produces tight growth rings, leaving the finished timber with an extremely high level of stability and a premium finish. The process of manufacturing the timber is extremely environmentally friendly, with all of the wood being responsibly sourced. The timber then gets kiln-dried and treated, to ensure maximum protection against all forms of decay.
Our Treated Timber is available in a variety of sizes and lengths. However, we can also cut any Timber to your required length or pack together as many pieces as you require, just select the custom cut of your choice when purchasing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is treated timber 8x3 (200mm x 75mm) 4.8m typically used for?
This 8x3 treated timber section is commonly used as a structural member for floor joists, beams, lintels, roof timbers and general heavy-duty framing where a robust, larger section is required.
Is this 8x3 timber pressure treated for outdoor use?
Yes. The timber is typically pressure treated to help protect against fungal decay and insect attack. Check the product description for the specific treatment class and any limitations regarding direct ground contact.
What are the finished dimensions of 8x3 timber?
Nominal 8x3" timber usually has a finished, planed size of around 200mm x 75mm, although exact dimensions can vary slightly depending on the milling process.
Is this treated timber suitable for structural applications?
These sections are often supplied in structural grades such as C16 or C24 for use in load-bearing applications. Always confirm the strength grade marked on the timber and ensure designs are checked against current structural codes or by a qualified designer.
Can I cut and drill the 8x3 timber on site?
Yes. It can be cut and drilled with standard woodworking tools. Any cut ends, notches or large drill holes should be retreated with an appropriate end-grain preservative to maintain durability.
Is this timber suitable for use in contact with the ground?
Suitability for ground contact depends on the treatment class. For continuous ground contact or high moisture exposure, a higher treatment specification or specialist ground-contact timber may be required. Always check the treatment details and follow best practice.
Can I use 8x3 treated timber for decking joists?
Yes, 8x3 treated timber is often used as a heavy-duty joist or beam in decking and outdoor platforms, particularly where longer spans or higher loads are involved. Ensure the timber is adequately supported and designed to the correct span tables.
Does treated timber need additional finishing or painting?
The pressure treatment protects against decay, but applying a suitable exterior stain, paint or oil can improve appearance and provide extra weathering protection. Allow the timber to dry sufficiently before applying surface finishes.
How should I store 8x3 treated timber before use?
Store the timber on level bearers off the ground, with good ventilation around the stack. Protect it from direct, prolonged wetting where possible but avoid completely sealing it in plastic, which can trap moisture.
Is this timber suitable for both DIY and professional projects?
Yes. It is widely used by both professional builders and competent DIYers for structural framing, decks, garden structures and general construction, provided all work complies with building regulations and good practice.
