Composite Decking Composition

These innovative composite decking boards are made from 55% recycled wood, 40% HDPE, and ~5% additives, so they're not only good for the environment but also incredibly durable.

The composition of the boards can vary slightly for each colour, depending on the additives used to create the colour. So if you're looking for a unique, eye-catching deck that will last for years to come, SmartDeck® decking is a perfect choice!

Application

All of our composite deck boards come in 4m or 2m lengths, but can easily be cut down to custom sizes with standard carpentry tools. And, unlike classic wood decking, you don't have to worry about composite boards warping or cracking over time.

They're also incredibly easy to install - even if you're not a professional tradesman. Simply secure the boards using hidden fixings for a clean and professional installation that will last the test of time.

Do not attach composite decking boards directly to the subframe with screws, always use the clips or fitting systems provided to secure the deck to the joists.

The clips allow the deck to expand or contract by about 5mm. 5mm Gap, allow a 5mm gap at the end of each board to expand and contract during hotter weather conditions.
Gradient allows for a 1 in 100 (1%) gradient to allow water to drain off the deck.

Please Note:

As with all brands of composite decking, SmartDeck's range will lighten and lose up to 30% of its colour in the first 6 months before stabilising to its final colour.

Composite products are made in different batches. Batches can differ in size, shade, texture and colour. We highly recommend ordering all of your decking together to avoid subtle differences in appearance.

Composite Decking Boards have a width tolerance of up to 2%.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Walnut Brown composite fascia board used for?

A Walnut Brown composite fascia board is used to clad and hide the outer edges and framing of a composite deck, providing a smart, colour-matched border and covering exposed structural timbers.

Is this fascia board colour-matched to Walnut Brown composite decking?

Yes. It is manufactured to match the Walnut Brown composite deck boards so that the deck edge, step risers and fascia details blend seamlessly with the main deck area.

What is the length and typical size of the Walnut Brown fascia board?

The fascia is supplied in 4m lengths. The exact width and thickness are specified in the product details and are designed to suit the associated deck board profile and typical deck frame depths.

How do I fix Walnut Brown fascia boards to the deck frame?

Fix the fascia boards directly to the face of the perimeter joists using corrosion-resistant screws or colour-matched composite fixings. Pre-drilling and staggering fixings can help reduce stress and create a neat finish. Always follow the manufacturer’s installation recommendations.

Can I use the fascia board on step risers?

Yes. Composite fascia is commonly used on step risers and the sides of raised decks, giving a tidy finish and protecting the underlying structure. Ensure steps are built to current regulations and that fixings do not create tripping hazards.

Does the Walnut Brown fascia board require painting or staining?

No. The Walnut Brown colour is integrated into the composite and does not require additional painting or staining. Simply clean periodically to maintain its appearance.

Can the fascia board be cut and mitred for corners?

Yes. You can cut and mitre the fascia using standard woodworking tools to form neat external and internal corners around the deck. Use a fine-tooth saw and support the board properly while cutting.

Will the colour of the Walnut Brown fascia fade over time?

Like other composite products, some initial weathering can occur, but the fascia is formulated with UV stabilisers to minimise long-term fading and maintain an attractive Walnut Brown tone.

Is the fascia board suitable for use in all weather conditions?

Yes. Composite fascia boards are designed for external use and are resistant to moisture, rot and insect attack when installed correctly as part of a properly constructed deck.

How should I clean and maintain a Walnut Brown composite fascia board?

Clean in the same way as the deck boards by brushing away debris and washing with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly afterwards and avoid using metal scrapers or very harsh chemicals on the surface.
